Don't like what you hear?
It's amazing how many times you're are
at a common gathering, listening to the radio, at a wedding or concert and don't
like what you hear.
And there's a good reason…
Many times, the person behind the crowd spinning knobs may not be thoroughly trained. This can happen from assuming that tenure and quality are interchangeable words. I've got bad news for those individuals, nothing can be further from the truth.

Luck can be dangerous with the gig's that we mixers and engineers get. That luck that gives us a break can really be a double edged sword. While we may need our "big breaks" from time to time as mixers and engineers, being able to say "Yeah I did a gig for So and So", your not necessarily saying that you did a good job, or that people liked the way it sounded.
Humble beginnings and hours and hours of grunt work should always be a prerequisite before stepping near any piece of equipment. So listen closely and think about what your hearing next time your at a show, or in church. Think about what you want to hear. What would it take to change it? Ask if you can help and learn, and you probably can change it…
